October is already upon us, and tomorrow we will experience the last solar eclipse of the autumn eclipse season.
We all feel that something has been stirring us up for quite some time now. Sometimes, we can’t even put into words what exactly it is that is both irritating and derailing us. When eclipses are active, time seems to flow differently than we’re accustomed to. We walk through a corridor where our “fate” intertwines with higher consciousness, the boundary between them becomes blurred, and we rarely see the workings of eclipses as part of the workings of nature. Instead, we struggle to explain unusual events as fate, something beyond our control. In reality, eclipses are powerful triggers of change, pushing us forward on our soul’s journey or helping us to conclude stories where there is no longer room for individual growth and development, but we cling more easily to the familiar and proven for the sake of security. That’s when some external circumstance forces us to adapt and often grow.
On Wednesday, the annular solar eclipse will open a path for us to conclude matters and relationships from our past. The things we know are no longer good for us but can’t let go of. Every new moon brings with it inherent endings and new beginnings, and an eclipse is simply a strongly amplified new moon whose effects are more far-reaching than a regular lunation.
This will be the penultimate eclipse on the Aries-Libra axis, with the last one in this series awaiting us at the end of March 2025. After that, eclipses will shift to the Pisces-Virgo axis.
The solar eclipse will occur at 10° of Libra, together with the south node of the moon. It is a memory of the soul, of what it has already learned through the realm of relationships, justice, and the search for balance between the identity of others and one’s own self. The soul knows when it has neglected itself for the sake of others, when it has lost the meaning of true coexistence. The most difficult thing is to find the right balance, to not be overly dependent on partnerships with others, but to be able to live fully in one’s own company and find peace within oneself. Pleasing others and putting their needs first is another theme that every Libra grapples with. Ultimately, we have learned diversity through relationships with others, to accept each other, regardless of our different beliefs, values, and needs.
The first internal conflict on the path to novelty is in the form of Mars in Cancer, which, due to the nature of its retrograde motion, will remain in the sign of Cancer for a long time, until mid-April 2025.
Mars is the least comfortable in Cancer, it prefers life without major upheavals or changes. If this eclipse calls for conclusions, Mars is not up for that action. Usually it needs some external trigger to move out of its comfort shell, and even then, it takes two steps forward and one step back in a typical cardinal way. Themes from home and family are in the foreground; such Mars is also passively aggressive when it cannot express its active and assertive nature.
During the eclipse, all important information is hidden from us, so we should not make any significant decisions. Let’s wait until the end of the week, when the moon has progressed and grown enough to provide us with the necessary support.
The greatest contribution that the eclipse in Libra brings and communicates is that through the diversity of our interpersonal relationships, we learn the relativity of everything around us. There is no single truth for everyone, but we strive for equality and balance (Libra) regardless of our needs and beliefs. Libra has the gift of diplomacy and reconciliation; it sees both sides of problems and seeks an optimal solution for all.
